P-51C Thunderbird
The P-51C "Thunderbird" is one of the most iconic post-war Mustangs, known for its victory in the 1949 Bendix race where it set a piston-driven speed record of 470 mph, piloted by Joe DeBona.
The aircraft was distinguished by its sleek cobalt blue finish and the red Pegasus logo of Mobil Oil, with a polished paint job that reportedly added 8 mph to its speed.
Owned at different times by WWII Brigadier General and actor Jimmy Stewart and the legendary pilot Jackie Cochran, Thunderbird is being meticulously painted to honor its historic legacy.
